In performing diligent and painstaking research to find the best projector possible within the limitations of budget and a set of requirements, one can often neglect the importance of a proper projector screen. Not just a white sheet, a good screen can enhance and sharpen the vivid images that modern day digital projectors are capable of producing.
High quality screens are made with special materials that can increase the brightness of light that hits it. This measurement is called “Screen Gain”. A screen gain of 1 is perfectly neutral with no light enhancement or increase. Screen gain can vary depending on the materials used and the purpose of the screen but ranges from 0.8 (grey high contrast screens) to 2.5 (highly reflective glass bead screens) are not uncommon.
