LCD Projectors
The Advantages of LCD Projectors
Generally speaking, LCD projectors deliver better picture quality vis-à-vis color vibrancy than DLP projectors because of the color saturation technology used. LCD projectors can produce a wider range of colors and shades in the images due to the presence of three poly silicone panels for the red, green, and blue components.

Of course, advances in DLP technology have made it possible for richer colors in DLP projectors. The upper hand in color saturation, however, still belongs to the LCD projectors especially in ambient light. Also, the images on an LCD projector look sharper and more pronounced than those in a DLP projector of the same resolution.
Furthermore, LCD projectors are more power-efficient and light efficient. Indeed, you will need approximately 30% more ANSI Lumens rating in a DLP projector for it to be able to compete equally with an LCD projector. This is especially handy when high light output is required in a projector as when there is plenty of ambient light in the room.
However, there are disadvantages to LCD projectors that are related to the picture quality in videos. First, there are more visible pixels that contribute to the screen door effect on certain video images; it looks like you are seeing the images through a screen door, thus the name. Second, there is poorer contrast such that blacks come out as light gray.
The Disadvantages of LCD Projectors
Where the disadvantages of LCD projectors end, the advantages of DLP projectors begin. With DLP projectors, there is higher contrast such that the blacks are blacker than in LCD projectors. In fact, most DLP projectors will have contrast ratios as high as 3000:1. Contrast that with LCD projectors’ at just 1000:1 in most instances.
Also, with DLP projectors there is lesser pixelation such that the images and videos appear smoother and clearer even on DVD and HDTV. Although this is not a big deal for business use DLP projectors, this is one of the main reasons that DLP projectors are very popular in home theater systems. Add in the smaller units of DLP projectors and you have points in portability, too.
